Aluminum Fencing FAQs

How long does an aluminum fence last in the Chicago area?

Decades, in most cases. Aluminum doesn’t rust, rot or attract insects, and the powder-coated finish is cured onto the metal rather than painted on, so it resists fading, chipping and scratching. Our manufacturers back their aluminum with strong warranties. Realistically, the things most likely to shorten an aluminum fence’s life around here are vehicles and falling tree limbs, not the material itself.

Is aluminum fencing cheaper than wrought iron?

Yes, generally by a wide margin, both to install and to own. Aluminum gives you the ornamental look without the ongoing scraping, priming and painting that real iron requires. We install iron and ornamental steel as well, and we’re glad to price both so you can compare.

Can I install an aluminum fence in my front yard?

Often, yes, and aluminum is frequently the only kind of fence permitted there. Many Chicagoland villages restrict front-yard fencing to open, see-through styles with a lower height limit than back-yard fencing. Rules differ by municipality and can be different again on a corner lot, so it’s worth confirming with your village before you finalize a design. We’ll go over it with you.

Will an aluminum fence keep my dog in the yard?

That depends on the dog, which is why we ask about it. Small breeds do best with puppy pickets, which tighten the spacing along the bottom of the panel. Jumpers need more height. Diggers may need a reinforced or buried bottom detail. Tell us the dog’s size, breed and habits and we’ll design around them.

Does aluminum fencing work around a swimming pool?

It’s the material most of our pool customers choose. It stands up to chemicals and splash, it doesn’t block your view of the water, and it accepts self-closing, self-latching gate hardware. Pool enclosures are usually reviewed as part of the swimming pool permit for your village, so let us know where you are in that process.

Can an aluminum fence follow a sloped yard?

Yes. Our panels can be racked to follow gradual grade changes, and where the drop is steeper, we step the panels down. Either way, the goal is the same: no gaps underneath for a pet or a small child.

Do you install aluminum fencing on commercial properties and HOA communities?

We do install perimeter fencing, community and pool enclosures, playgrounds, dumpster enclosures, and automated or access-controlled entry gates.
