It's a place where your backyard isn't entirely separate from anyone else's, which is why the fence you choose matters. The right one gives you privacy and a safe yard without shutting the block out.

Residential Fence Installation in La Grange Park
Whether you're closing off the yard for the first time in a new home west of La Grange Road or replacing a tired fence in one of the older east-side neighborhoods, our fence installers help you land on a style that fits the house and the block. Here's the range we build.
Custom-Designed Fences
Some yards don't fit a catalog. When you want a specific height, a mixed-material run, a decorative top, or a layout that works around mature trees and deep lots, our fence builders design and build to your property rather than around a standard panel.
Wood Fences
Warm, classic, and endlessly customizable, a wood fence La Grange Park homeowners love is still the go-to for backyard privacy. The Village code permits treated wood, cedar, or redwood, so you have room to choose. We build in Western Red Cedar because it stands up well to Chicagoland's freeze-and-thaw seasons and keeps its look for years. If you're weighing pressure-treated pine to trim cost, we're happy to walk you through the trade-offs.
Vinyl (PVC) Fences
Vinyl fencing is an excellent option for homeowners that want a fence that requires little or no maintenance. It won't need staining or sealing, it wipes clean with a hose, and it holds its color season after season. As one of the vinyl fence companies La Grange Park trusts, we install privacy, semi-privacy, and picket styles that look sharp for years.
Composite Fences
Modern composite gives you the substance of wood with far less upkeep. It is durable, pest-resistant, and waterproof, and available in colors and profiles that suit newer construction and updated exteriors. A great middle ground for homeowners who want low maintenance without a fully synthetic look.
Chain Link Fences
Practical, affordable, and quick to install, chain link is a workhorse for backyards, dog runs, and property lines where you want security without blocking sightlines. In La Grange Park, code allows coated chain link in brown, black, or green in the rear and interior side yards. The coated finish looks far better than old galvanized wire.
Aluminum Fences
Aluminum fencing delivers the tailored, wrought-iron look with almost none of the maintenance and no rust. It's a favorite for front and side yards, garden enclosures, and pool areas where you want a clean line and clear sightlines. Aluminum fence installation in La Grange Park, IL pairs beautifully with the village's tree-lined streets.
Ornamental Steel Fences
When you want more heft and a stronger security presence than aluminum while keeping an elegant, open profile, ornamental steel is the answer. Powder-coated and built to last, it can be used for residential and commercial properties.
Iron Fences
For timeless character, a wrought iron fence adds architectural detail that reads as permanent. We install and repair iron fencing and gates, from decorative garden runs to full estate-style enclosures.
Gate Installation in La Grange Park
A fence is only as good as the way you move through it. We handle gate installation in La Grange Park, IL as part of every project, including walk gates, double-drive gates, and self-closing, self-latching gates for pool and child-safety applications. For driveways and commercial entrances, we also install automated and access-controlled gates. We use dependable latches and hinges, so the gate still swings true after a few hard Chicago winters.
Fencing Built Around the Way La Grange Park Lives
- For privacy without cutting off the block: On lots where houses sit close, a solid cedar or vinyl privacy fence gives you a quieter, more comfortable backyard while still fitting a neighborhood that prides itself on being neighborly.
- For parents and pets: Closing off the yard so the kids and the dog can be outside without a constant eye on the gate is one of the most common reasons families call us. We'll match fence height and picket spacing to your dog and, add self-latching gates young children can't work, and reinforce the bottom run for diggers. La Grange Park backs up to forest preserves on much of its edge, so if the occasional critter is a concern, we can factor that into the design.
- For pool owners: If you have or are planning a pool, the barrier fence is part of the swimming pool permit process, and it must satisfy the Village's pool-safety requirements with self-closing, self-latching gates. We provide pool fence installation that meets code and still lets you see the water from the house, but we do not install removable mesh pool fencing. Tell us where you are in the pool permit timeline and we'll do our best to build to it.
- For curb appeal: A well-chosen aluminum, ornamental steel, or custom wood fence defines a front yard and lifts the whole exterior. We help you coordinate style, color, and proportion so the fence looks like it was always meant to be there.
Commercial Fence Installation in La Grange Park
First Fence is also a commercial fence company serving La Grange Park's businesses, schools, houses of worship, and multi-family properties along the La Grange Road and 31st Street corridors. We bring detailed proposals, full insurance documentation, and scheduling that works around your operations, and for larger scopes, we can phase the work to fit a budget cycle.
Industrial & Recreational Fencing
Heavy-duty chain link and steel systems for perimeters, storage yards, ball fields, tennis and pickleball courts, and recreational spaces, built to take a beating and keep people and property where they belong.
Access Control
Automated gates, keypads, card and fob readers, and operators that integrate with your existing security, so you control who comes and goes after hours.
Security Fencing
Anti-climb designs, ornamental steel, and reinforced systems for properties that need a serious barrier without looking like a compound.
Screening & Enclosures
Dumpster and equipment enclosures that hide the necessary and satisfy screening requirements, an especially common need for commercial sites near residential blocks.
Pergolas, Trellises & Custom Woodworking
Beyond fencing, our shop builds pergolas, trellises, and custom woodwork to finish patios, entrances, and gathering spaces.
Permits & the La Grange Park Fence Code
La Grange Park has one of the more distinctive fence codes in the western suburbs, and it's worth knowing before you build. The Village requires a building permit before any fence is erected or replaced, and the finished side of the fence must face away from your property, the posts go on the inside, and both faces must look similar.
Here are a few other specifics worth considering:
- Backyard and interior side yards: Solid or open fences are allowed up to 6 feet.
- Front and corner side yards: Open fences only (defined as at least 33% open), up to 4 feet, and front-yard fences must sit behind the front building line.
- Corner lots: A corner-side fence is allowed behind the rear building line and may extend up to about 10 feet toward the front, a rule that trips up a lot of corner-lot owners near La Grange Road.
- Materials the code recognizes: Treated wood, cedar or redwood, simulated wood, decorative brick or stone, wrought-iron (or aluminum/steel made to look like it), coated chain link in brown/black/green for rear and interior side yards, and vinyl.
First Fence is glad to help you prepare your fence permit application by putting together the fence details and drawings the Village looks for and pointing you to the right sections of the code so nothing gets kicked back. However, the permit is issued to you as the property owner, so submitting the application and obtaining the approval are your responsibility.
Fence Repair & Replacement in La Grange Park
Not every call is a new fence. We can handle repairs for a range of issues such as a leaning post after a windstorm, a gate that won't latch, a section clipped by a delivery truck, or a wood run that's simply reached the end of its life. We'll tell you honestly whether a repair will hold or whether replacement is the better value. Because La Grange Park requires nonconforming fences to be brought into compliance when they're reconstructed, an old fence in a spot the code no longer allows may need to shift when it's replaced. We'll flag that up front so there are no surprises.
Why La Grange Park Chooses First Fence Company
Since 1989 we've grown into one of Chicagoland's most recognized fence companies by providing trusted service with quality materials, skilled crews, clean job sites, and fences that still stand years later. We know the western suburbs and the way their codes differ block to block, and we take a personalized approach to every fencing project in La Grange Park.

Fencing Services in La Grange Park FAQs
Which way does the finished side of my fence have to face in La Grange Park?
Away from your property. The Village code requires the finished (smooth) side to face outward toward neighbors and the street, with the posts and rails on your side, and it asks that both faces look similar in design.
Do I need a permit just to replace my existing fence?
Yes. La Grange Park requires a building permit before a fence is erected or replaced, so a straight swap of an old fence still needs one. We'll get your fence details and drawings ready for submission, but as the property owner, you'll file the application and see it through with the Village.
What counts as an "open" fence for my front or corner-side yard?
The code allows only open fences in front and corner side yards, up to 4 feet tall, and defines "open" as at least 33% open, like aluminum, ornamental, or a spaced picket. Solid privacy fences up to 6 feet are reserved for your interior side and rear yards.
Can I put a chain-link fence in my front yard?
No, coated chain link is permitted only in the rear and interior side yards, and it must be brown, black, or green. For a front yard, you'd look at an open aluminum or ornamental style at 4 feet. We can show you options that satisfy the code and still look great from the street.
I'm on a corner lot near La Grange Road, how far toward the street can my fence go?
Corner lots get special handling. A corner-side fence is allowed behind the rear building line and can extend only about 10 feet toward the front lot line. It's one of the most misread rules in the village, so we'll map exactly what your specific corner allows before we build.
Do you install pool fences, and how does that work with the pool permit?
Yes. In La Grange Park the pool barrier is part of the swimming pool permit and must meet the Village's pool-safety rules, including self-closing, self-latching gates. Tell us where you are in the pool permitting process and we'll build a fence that clears inspection. We do not install removable mesh pool fencing.
