Fencing Services in Villa Park, IL
First Fence Company is a residential and commercial fence contractor based in Hillside, IL, serving Villa Park since 1989 with fence installation, repair, and gate services.
Villa Park developed around the Ovaltine factory and the rail lines that fed it, and today those old corridors run right through town as the Illinois Prairie Path and the Great Western Trail. It's a village of bungalows, Sears catalog homes, and mature, character-filled lots, where a fence must do more than close off a yard. It has to fit the house, respect the neighbors, and hold up to Illinois weather for the long haul.
That's the kind of work First Fence Company has done for Chicagoland since 1989. We've spent more than 35 years designing and installing residential and commercial fences and we've grown through the recommendations of homeowners and business owners who are satisfied with our work. When you work with us, you're never just another job on the schedule, we take the time to understand your property, budget, and reasons for fencing.
Whether you need a new privacy fence behind a Prairie Path lot, a replacement for a fence that's seen one winter too many, or a secure enclosure for a Roosevelt Road business, we're the fence contractors in Villa Park, IL who can build it right.

Fencing Along the Prairie Path and the Great Western Trail
Two beloved public trails cut straight through the Villa Park. The Illinois Prairie Path follows the old CA&E "Roarin' Elgin" electric line, and the Great Western Trail runs along a former Chicago Great Western Railway spur. If your backyard backs up to one of them, you already know the trade-off; a green, walkable corridor at your door, and a steady stream of walkers, cyclists, and dogs just beyond your lot line.
Fencing a trail-adjacent property calls for a little extra thought, and we've done plenty of it:
- Privacy where you want it: A solid Western Red Cedar or vinyl privacy fence gives you back the sense that your yard is yours, even a few feet from a public path.
- A finished look on both sides: Trail-facing fences are seen by the whole neighborhood, so appearance from the outside matters as much as from your patio. Board-on-board and shadowbox styles look intentional from either direction.
- Easements to plan around: Some lots along these corridors sit on or near utility easements. Villa Park allows fencing on easements, but the owner has to acknowledge that the Village may remove a fence to reach what's underneath. We'll help you spot this on your plat of survey.
If your property doesn't touch a trail, none of this changes what we do, it just shows the kind of local detail we bring to every Villa Park project.
Residential Fence Installation in Villa Park, IL
Villa Park's housing runs from compact starter homes to larger move-up houses, many of them architecturally one-of-a-kind. We carry more than 100 fence styles so we can match the fence to the home rather than the other way around. Here's a quick look at the residential fences we install.
Wood Fencing (Western Red Cedar)
We build our wood fences from Western Red Cedar for its natural beauty, straight grain, and resistance to warping and decay. It ages gracefully and holds up to Chicagoland seasons, whether you finish it or let it weather to a soft silver-gray. Privacy, picket, board-on-board, and shadowbox layouts are all on the table.
Vinyl (PVC) Fencing
For homeowners who do not want to worry about maintaining their fence, vinyl is hard to beat. Our Catalyst vinyl fences resist fading, cracking, insects, and rot, and they never need painting, staining, or sealing, just a quick rinse with the hose keeps them looking new. Available in solid privacy panels, semi-private styles, and picket designs, including wood-grain textures for a more traditional look.
Chain Link Fencing
Practical, secure, and budget-friendly, chain link is a smart choice for pet runs, backyards, and property boundaries where you don't need to block the view. We install galvanized chain link as well as vinyl-coated versions in black, green, and other colors that recede into the landscape and last longer against the elements.
Aluminum Fencing
Our aluminum fencing pairs the classic look of wrought iron with almost no upkeep and no rust. The high-performance metals and coatings we use are chosen first for endurance, so the finish stays sharp for years. It's a favorite for front yards, pool enclosures, and homeowners who want an open, elegant boundary they can see through.
Ornamental Steel Fencing
When you want more strength and heft than aluminum, ornamental steel delivers a substantial, high-end look with excellent security. It's an ideal match for larger Villa Park homes and anyone wanting a statement boundary that also stands up to real force.
Iron Fencing
For timeless, handcrafted character, we install ornamental iron to last a lifetime. Iron suits historic and architecturally distinctive homes, of which Villa Park has many, where nothing else quite captures the look.
Composite Fencing
Modern composite fencing is durable, pest-resistant, waterproof, and highly customizable, blending the warmth of wood with the low maintenance of vinyl. A great option for homeowners who want a contemporary, substantial fence without an ongoing upkeep schedule.
Gate Installation
Every fence needs a dependable gate. We install matching walk gates, wide double gates for mowers and trailers, and self-closing, self-latching gates for pool and child-safety applications, all built and hung to swing true for the long haul.

Fencing Built Around Your Life by a Villa Park Fence Contractor
- Families with young children: A secure yard means a safer place to play. We install fences with tight, climb-resistant construction and gates that latch and close on their own, so a busy afternoon in the backyard comes with a little less worry.
- Dog owners: Whether you're closing off the yard for a new puppy or containing a big, athletic dog, we size the height, picket spacing, and bottom clearance to your specific pet. Aluminum with puppy pickets keeps small dogs from slipping through.
- Pool owners: Pool fencing is about safety first and code compliance. In Villa Park, pool enclosures are handled as part of the swimming pool permit process, and we build to those requirements with self-closing, self-latching gates. Aluminum and ornamental styles keep the pool visible while keeping it secure. We don't deal in removable mesh; we install permanent, well-built enclosures.
- New Villa Park homeowners: Just moved in and not sure where to start? We'll walk you through materials, help you locate your property lines using your plat of survey, and explain what the Village requires before anything gets built. No pressure, no unnecessary upgrades, just clear guidance so you make a decision you'll be happy with for years.
- Low-maintenance homeowners: If your old wood fence has become a seasonal chore, vinyl, aluminum, and composite all let you skip the sanding and staining. Beautiful, dependable, and something you never have to touch.

Fence Permits in Villa Park: What to Know (and How We Help)
Villa Park requires a permit for any fence, new or replacement, wood or chain link, because a fence counts as an accessory structure under Village code. Here are a few of the rules worth knowing before you plan:
- Height: Fences may be up to 6 feet in both residential and commercial areas.
- Corner and driveway sightlines: On corner lots, solid and chain link fences are limited to 36 inches within 20 feet of a street intersection. Villa Park also applies a visual-obstruction triangle at driveways, within a triangle with two 20-foot legs measured from where the side lot line meets each side of a driveway (yours or an adjacent lot's), fencing is held to 36 inches solid or 48 inches chain link so drivers keep a clear line of sight.
- Post depth: Post holes must go at least 42 inches below grade which is good practice anyway in our frost-prone soil.
- Finished side out: The finished face of the fence must point toward the neighboring property or street.
- On the line: You may build right on the property line, though the Village suggests setting posts 3–6 inches inside it. A plat of survey is required, and calling J.U.L.I.E. (811) before digging is a must.
- No barbed wire or hazardous materials in residential or commercial districts.
First Fence is glad to guide you through Villa Park's fence permit application by helping you prepare the plat of survey, fence drawings, and material details the Village needs, and pointing you to the online Permit Portal. As the property owner, you'll submit the application and obtain the permit.
(Please confirm current height, sightline, and post-depth figures with the Village of Villa Park before finalizing your plans — codes are updated periodically.)
Fence Repair & Replacement in Villa Park
Not every project starts from scratch. Villa Park's older neighborhoods are full of fences that have served well but are showing their age such as leaning posts, a gate that won't latch, wind damage after a Chicagoland storm, or panels that have simply reached the end of the road.
We'll give you an honest assessment of whether a repair makes sense or whether replacement is the better value, and we'll never push you toward more than you need. When a full replacement is the right call, we handle removal and haul-away of the old fence, too. If budget is a concern, we can talk through phasing the work so it fits your timeline which is a practical way to get the fence you want without doing it all at once.
Why Villa Park Chooses First Fence
- Local and close by: Our Hillside headquarters is minutes from Villa Park, we know the area, the weather, and the Village's requirements.
- 35+ years, mostly by referral: We've grown since 1989 largely through word-of-mouth, because our work speaks for itself.
- More than 100 styles: Residential, commercial, and specialty styles available, we match the fence to your property and budget, not a one-size template.
- Quality materials, skilled installation: From Western Red Cedar to architectural metal, we use materials chosen to last and install them to match.
- Straightforward guidance: Clear estimates, honest repair-vs-replace advice, and real help navigating the permit process.

Fencing Services in Villa Park FAQs
Do I need a permit to install a fence in Villa Park, IL?
Yes. Villa Park treats a fence as an accessory structure, so a permit is required for any fence installation or replacement, including chain link. You'll need a plat of survey, and applications go through the Village's online Permit Portal. First Fence will help you prepare the fence details and drawings and point you in the right direction, but as the property owner, you'll submit the application and handle any Village follow-up.
My yard backs up to the Illinois Prairie Path (or the Great Western Trail). What should I know before fencing it?
Trail-adjacent lots are common in Villa Park, and they call for a couple of extra considerations. A solid privacy fence restores the sense of an enclosed yard next to a busy path, and because the fence will be seen from the trail, styles that look finished on both sides, like board-on-board or shadowbox, tend to work best. If your lot sits on a utility easement, the Village may require an acknowledgment that a fence could be removed for access; we'll help you check your survey for this before we build.
How tall can my fence be, and what's the rule near my driveway?
Fences in Villa Park can be up to 6 feet tall. The catch is sightlines: near a driveway, the Village enforces a visual-obstruction triangle (two 20-foot legs from where the side lot line meets each side of the drive) that limits fencing to about 36 inches for solid styles or 48 inches for chain link, so drivers can see clearly. Corner lots have a similar restriction at street intersections. We design around these restrictions so your fence is both compliant and does its job.
I have an older Villa Park home, can you match or replace an existing fence?
Absolutely. Many of Villa Park's bungalows and Sears catalog homes are architecturally distinctive, and we'll recommend a style that suits the house rather than fighting it. If you're replacing an aging fence, we'll assess whether repair or full replacement gives you better value, and we handle removal of the old fence when you replace.
Can First Fence help with my pool fence and the pool permit?
Yes. In Villa Park, pool enclosures are reviewed as part of the swimming pool permit process, so the fence and pool are considered together. We build to those safety requirements with self-closing, self-latching gates and durable aluminum or ornamental styles that keep the pool in view while keeping it secure. (We don't install removable mesh, we build permanent, quality enclosures.)
