Before Your Appointment

What should I do to prepare for my free estimate appointment?

You should have your plat of survey on hand for our fence consultant to review. This legal document determines your property lines and is also necessary to obtain your fence permit through your city or village.

Why are you purchasing a fence?

It is very important to determine why you are getting a fence installed. Are you adding a fence to contain a pet, control access to a pool or add security for your children? Are you looking to add elegance and curb appeal with something ornamental? Or would you like complete privacy in your yard? Answering these questions will help our fence consultants assist you in determining what type of material and style of fence best matches your needs.

Do I need to be present at the estimate appointment?

Yes. We prefer that all decision makers are present when you meet with our fence consultant. This way, we can all walk the property, discuss your vision and talk through the best and most appropriate fencing options available to you.

Get to Know Us

Why should I hire First Fence?

We have been in business for 29 years. Our longstanding history allows our clients to receive not only the most experienced personnel in the industry, but also the highest quality materials, installation and overall satisfaction.

I got 3 quotes and First Fence is on the higher end. I really like First Fence but the price is stopping me.

We recommend you always get multiple quotes when hiring services at your home. However, as a consumer, you need to be sure you are comparing apples to apples. Many competitors supply inferior products, perform improper installations or simply do not stand by their work. Do your homework. Our fence consultants will take the time to walk you through any of our products and our process in detail.

On to the Install

What is your installation process?

Check out our process from start to finish. Our guide covers everything from take down and haul away and what utilities need to be marked prior to installation. As always, contact your sale consultant if you have further questions.

We’re thinking about a fence, should I talk to my neighbors?

As the saying goes – “Good fences make good neighbors” …but only if your neighbors are aware of potential changes you are going to make on your property. Change can be hard, however in the end, work for the better. We always recommend discussing your intentions with your neighbors.

I just submitted my contract and deposit, but I was not given an exact date for installation. Why is this?

Your sales consultant will provide you with a timeline for your fence project. All installations cannot be started until all permits have been secured (in most cases, the responsibility of the customer) and J.U.L.I.E. has been contacted (First Fence’s responsibility.) From there, you will be notified of the date of installation. Weather can be huge a factor in the scheduling installations. If at any time you need clarification concerning your fence job, please contact our office directly at 708-547-7555.

Why are some areas or sections of my fence going to be taller than others?

The only way to get a fence completely level across the entirety of its run is to have the ground or grade absolutely level. It is extremely rare to have property that has no elevation change. It is standard in the fence industry to build fences to follow the elevation/grade. See examples in the photos below.
